About the Writer
One thing you ought to know about me is I love history. All of it—the small peculiarities of day to day life in the past, the complexities of international relations and economics, the way real events have grown and blossomed over time into the myths, legends, and idioms we reference today. Storytelling is my favorite way to delve into and share that knowledge.
My books are an exploration of both the mundane and the extremes in human existence, drawing on my academic historical studies and my personal research. Armed conflict is a central theme—I'm always amazed at how war claims humanity's most wicked actions but also boasts some of its most selfless and beautiful—the hyperbole of “there cannot be light without dark.” And in amongst my study of conflict, I tell stories that I hope are as universal as they feel to me. Stories which have nothing to do with war, but everything to do with family, friends, love, and building a life you’re proud of.
And as for who I am, well...I like to hike through forested mountainsides, I’m married to the best muse I could ever ask for, and I have three adorable cats who constantly sabotage my writing time. Satire is the bread of my humor and swearing is the butter. And though I enjoy lots of time in the quiet of my home, I thrive off the experience of meeting new people and would be a terrible hermit. Characters create the basis of my stories after all, and the people in our lives make them worth living.
